Choosing
Cabinetry and countertops affect one another. Cabinet layout determines the shape and support of the counter; countertop thickness and overhang influence edges and clearances; and appliance and sink selections affect cutouts. Planning these decisions together can reduce late changes.
List what you want to improve: storage, prep space, seating, lighting, appliance placement, or the overall look. Note which cabinets or surfaces will stay and which will change. If you are considering a larger remodel, coordinate the work sequence with the project team and other trades.
Confirm appliance models, sink and faucet selections, cabinet layout, and any planned island seating or overhang. The NKBA’s kitchen planning guidance addresses clearances, appliance locations, and work areas as connected parts of the design. A qualified project team should verify dimensions and support requirements for your actual room.
Compare countertop samples beside cabinet doors, flooring, backsplash, and paint. Think about contrast, pattern scale, and how the materials look under the room’s lighting. For natural stone, review the slab and discuss how its movement will appear across the counter and backsplash.
Ask who is responsible for demolition, cabinetry, countertop measurement, fabrication, installation, plumbing, electrical work, and painting. A written scope should make clear which items are included and which are handled by other trades. Motta One describes its services as including countertops, custom cabinetry and millwork, and interior remodeling, and says combined work can be coordinated through one point of contact.
Save the final cabinet plan, appliance specifications, material selection, edge profile, sink details, backsplash plan, and written quote in one place. Share changes with the project team before fabrication or ordering begins.
